Pastors Rusty & Leah Martin
Rusty attended Lakewood Bible Institute in Houston under Pastor John Osteen. Rusty graduated in May of 1985 with awards in scholastics and attendance. While attending Lakewood Bible Institute, he began Rusty Martin Ministries. From that point until the establishment of Island Church in 2002, he traveled intensely in the States and around the world proclaiming and demonstrating the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Island Church held its first service on the first Sunday in February 2002. The venue was the Galvez Hotel and there were 65 people in attendance. Prior to the first meeting, there were 5 months of prayer held every Tuesday night at Pastor Rusty and Leah’s home in Galveston. After a month at the Galvez Hotel, Island Church moved to the Tremont House for almost a year. We then leased a building at the corner of 45th Street and Avenue Q. The church continued to grow at the 45th Street location for 3 years until the current property on 69th Street was secured.
What we Believe
Island church exists to honor and glorify God by obeying Jesus' command to make disciples of all people groups. We accomplish this through our Mission and Core Values.
What to Expect
Every service at Island Church has much prayer and study invested in it. Although we have a format to our services, we are open and submitted to the move of the Holy Ghost. We do our best to serve all those attending through Greeters, Ushers and Counseling ministries so that everyone will have a blessed experience. Our services are approximately 1 hour on Wednesday nights and 1½ hours on Sunday mornings. We desire to equip you to go out and be an overcomer in every area and a witness for Christ.
